Handmade books are works of art in themselves.

This style of book is centuries old, examples can be found in many places including India, Japan and China. It is often associated with Buddhist texts. The hardcover books have one continuous paper that folds concertina style into the cover. The covers will be made with recycled heavy card and a selection of decorative papers from the studio. If you have decorative papers you would like to include, please bring them. The finished books are about 11 x 15 cm when folded shut.

These books make really great travel journals and notebooks. They are useful for drawing and painting as well as they allow for both sides to be used and for the creator to decide on continuous or page by page creation. Once the technique is learned, they are also easy to reproduce.

This class is suitable for students old enough to use a craft knife with guidance. There will be a lot of water based glue involved.
