Handmade books are works of art in themselves.

This style of bookbinding is many centuries old and uses no glue or paste to construct. The stitches that hold the pages together are visible on the outer part of the book when it is finished, allowing for colourful threads or decorative flourishes. We will be making an A6 book in this workshop, with 36 blank pages of white, Italian drawing paper. The outside of the book will be made with coloured leather. The books will be bound with a waxed linen thread. If you would prefer to use felt rather than leather, please let me know at least 24 hours in advance.

This style of book is perfect for journaling and collage as the book has a flexible cover, space between the pages for expansion and the pages can lie flat while you work on them. They also work very well as photograph or scrapbook albums.

This class is suitable for students old enough to use a craft knife with guidance.
